Omaha Hi-Low: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha/8 starts like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many entrants often get baffled. Unlike Hold’em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same concept in almost all poker games.
The lower hand is more difficult, but really opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand wins the whole pot.
It may seem complex initially, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic nuances of play with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better offers an overwhelming array of betting options and seeing that you have many individuals battling for the high hand, and many trying for the low hand. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
