Omaha Hi/Low: Basic Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but favored poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha hi/low begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of betting ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where many entrants often get baffled. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same approach in nearly all poker games.
A low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
Although it seems complex at the start, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an overwhelming collection of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals shooting for the high hand, as well as a few shooting for the low.
