Omaha Hi Lo: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha hi/lo begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of betting ensues. After all the players have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of betting follows and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many players can get flustered. Unlike Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must use exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same concept in nearly every poker game.
The low hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem complex at the start, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of play with ease. Since you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an amazing range of wagering choices and because you have numerous players battling for the high hand, along with many battling for the low hand. If you love a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
