Omaha Hi/Low: Basic Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of betting happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. Another round of betting happens and then the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where many players often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same notion in almost all poker games.
The lower hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.
While it seems difficult initially, following a couple of hands you will be able to get the fundamental subtleties of play simply enough.
