Omaha Hi Lo: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complicated but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha 8 or better begins like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a few players often get flustered. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same approach in almost every poker game.
A lower hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand wins the entire pot.
It may seem complicated at the start, after a few rounds you will be able to get the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Since you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting range of wagering possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several players trying for the high, as well as a few battling for the low hand. If you prefer a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha/8.
