Omaha Hi Lo: Fundamental Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure variation, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha/8 begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of betting follows where gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. Another round of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting happens and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where many entrants get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same approach in almost every poker game.
The lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.
It may seem difficult at the start, after a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting collection of betting options and seeing that you have numerous players shooting for the high, along with several shooting for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
