Omaha Hi-Low: Basic Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible variation, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha hi lo begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where many players often get baffled. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same approach in just about every poker game.
A lower hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand wins the entire pot.
It may seem complicated at the outset, following a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic subtleties of play with ease.
