Omaha Hi/Low: General Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better starts like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting follows where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. Another round of betting ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. Another round of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a number of entrants often get baffled. Unlike Hold’em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical concept in almost every poker game.
The lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.
While it seems complicated at the outset, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of the game simply enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha High-Low offers an amazing range of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have several individuals trying for the high, along with many battling for the low. If you enjoy a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha hi lo.
