Omaha Hi-Lo: General Summary

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has grown in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha/8 starts just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of wagering follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where many players often get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to utilize precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in almost all poker games.
A low hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand wins the whole pot.
It may seem complicated at the start, following a couple of hands you will be able to pick up on the base nuances of play with ease. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an overwhelming range of betting possibilities and because you have many players battling for the high hand, along with many battling for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
