Omaha Hi/Lo: General Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has grown in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha hi low begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting follows where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a few entrants can get flustered. Unlike Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to use exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the same concept in almost all poker games.
The lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no low hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem difficult at the start, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the base subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an amazing range of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have many players battling for the high, along with a few battling for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
